IndiePet, a nonprofit trade association for independent pet retailers, will offer its retailer members access to Open Catalog from Salsify, a centralized hub for product content. Manufacturers that are IndiePet members can publish their product content to Open Catalog, making it easily accessible to 240 retail businesses representing 1,500 storefronts.

“We’re always on the lookout for ways to strengthen the independent pet ecosystem and help our members compete effectively with mass online retailers,” said Todd Dittman, Executive Director at IndiePet in a statement. “IndiePet’s Open Catalog streamlines communication between manufacturers and retailers, ensuring precise product details and expanding product content reach. What’s more, the IndiePet Open Catalog equips smaller retailers to enhance their ecommerce presence with maximum efficiency.”

Manufacturers can register and publish their product information on Open Catalog at no cost, irrespective of whether or not they are Salsify customers. For retailers, key benefits of Open Catalog include improved data quality and customer experience.

“Email exchanges and never-ending spreadsheets about product details were cumbersome and inefficient,” said Jeremy Barnes, Senior Supply Chain Business Process and Project Manager at pet retailer Mud Bay in a statement. “Open Catalog is a huge boost to our entire industry and truly does level the playing field for independent pet retailers.”
