Americans were paying $5 a gallon on average for gas in early June last year. The average price for a gallon of gas heading into Memorial Day weekend is $3.50. Industry experts expect prices to remain steady through the summer months. “Last year, you had higher growth in demand and lower growth in supply,” said Linda Giesecke, the head of demand analysis at ESAI Energy. “This year, demand and supply are relatively evenly balanced.”
