Madewell Men’s store opens in Washington, DC

A new, stand-alone Madewell Men’s store is now open in Washington, D.C.

The location, which is about a block away from another Madewell store, features denim trade-in, hemming, one-on-one styling and in-store pickup of online purchases.

The retailer has been “actively investing” in its men’s collection, Beth Herget, Madewell’s vice president of merchandising, told Retail Dive last year. The company has been carrying men’s products since 2018 with dedicated sections in select locations, ultimately expanding to a number of stand-alone stores.

The company decided to get into men’s apparel, and men’s jeans in particular, after frequent requests from shoppers, Herget said. “After an encouraging response to our initial launch focused on denim, we expanded by building out the pieces he would wear with jeans to deliver a full wardrobe concept.”

Madewell did not immediately respond to a request for comment regarding the opening of its new D.C. men’s store.

Meanwhile, J. Crew Group, which runs the Madewell and J. Crew brands, recently has undergone layoffs. The company did not answer questions about the number of employees or positions impacted, though the retailer did say it concerned a small number of roles.

“We have conducted a comprehensive review of our organization and made decisions to support efficiency and long-term growth,” a J. Crew Group spokesperson said in a statement.

The new Madewell Men’s store is located at 1821 14th St. NW, Washington, D.C.
