// The Perfume Shop sold a record 1.8 bottles of fragrance over is Christmas peak
// Gift set sales surged 26% in the week before Christmas
The Perfume Shop celebrated a record Christmas as sales of gift sets soared.
The retailer sold 1.8 million bottles of perfume between November 28 and December 24, a new high for the business, while gift sets surged 26% year on year in the week before Christmas.
The retailer’s best sellers were Dior’s Sauvage, Chanel’s Coco Mademoiselle and Thierry Mugler’s Alien fragrances.
The Perfume Shop, which is part of AS Watson that also owns Superdrug, trades from 215 UK stores.
The retailer’s trading director Andrea Rickard said that it had made sure it offered “early Christmas deals such as gift sets, stocking fillers and more to help families spread the cost of the festive season”.
The Perfume Shop’s online business also thrived over the Christmas period. Its busiest day was Sunday 11 December, where online orders surged 39% against last year’s peak day.
